Maple Pecan Chocolate Squares

I was watching a holiday baking special on CityLine and they were making these Maple Pecan Chocolate Squares. They are like a pecan butter tart but in a bar form. A friend of mine was having a holiday baking day where we brought over the main ingredients and baked. I knew I was going to give these bars a try. They are delicious!!! And surprising super easy to make!

Base:
-          1¼ cup flour
-          ½ cup icing sugar
-          ¼ tsp salt
-          ½ cup cool unsalted butter

-          ½ cup brown sugar
-          1 tbsp cornstarch
-          ½ tsp baking powder
-          ¼ tsp cinnamon
-          2 eggs

-          ¼ cup butter, melted
-          1 tsp vanilla
-          1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice
-          2 cups pecan halves
-          1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350oF. Grease an 8” pan and line with parchment paper
  2. Prepare base by mixing flour, icing sugar and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly and press in pan.
  3. Bake for 15 minutes and cool.
  4. Prepare filling
    1. Mix brown sugar, cornstarch, baking powder and cinnamon
    2. In another bowl, mix eggs, maple sugar, butter, vanilla and vinegar
    3. Whisk egg mixture into brown sugar mixture
    4. Stir in pecans and chocolate chips
  5. Pour filling over cooled crust
  6. Bake for 25 minutes or until middle is set (a little thicker than a butter tart)
  7. Chill completely before slicing
